Ever since I started this blog I've been meaning to post about Askew, and now - thanks to Auckland Creative Mornings - I have a video to go along with it. Elliot O'Donnell, writing as Askew One, is New Zealand's best-known graffiti artist and is celebrated in his field worldwide. And while he is undoubtedly out front in the NZ scene, he's also an edifying force behind the scenes, championing other New Zealand writers, pushing the craft forward and conceiving and collaborating on projects that take himself, his friends and their art to the next level. He's also co-authored a book (Inform) on contemporary NZ graffiti, opened a gallery, directed several music videos... The Most Dedicated, indeed. This 20 minute talk isn't for graffiti artists, it's for any creative with a unique voice, who would be inspired by someone with a wicked work ethic...someone who gets out there and makes their own opportunities.
