Open & Airy

Sites like Pinterest and Houzz make daydreaming so much easier – there are so many beautiful homes and places that we can all dream of living in one day. While many of them are beautiful rooms that provide inspiration for our own homes, some are more extreme and wild. Like this home shown above, for example.

It would be totally amazing to live in a home with a cat walk above a pool that borders what could be a living room or kitchen – it’s hard to tell from the photo! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to go out for a morning swim and then hop up into the kitchen for breakfast? It certainly would – but what about the mess? Your kitchen would double as a mudroom! And is there enough glass to keep any rainfall out?
Perhaps a home like this would be best as a vacation home. Or maybe it’s not even a home – but a hotel lobby. At least Inmod is always here to provide plenty of modern furniture to decorate the space!

What do you think of this open and airy home? Would you live in a place like this or do you prefer more privacy and closure?

What’s Chic, Stylish and on Sale?

The Lotus Wall Clock, that’s what!!

The intricate design of this mesmerizing wall clock is unique and ideal for any bare wall begging for some fresh decor. It’s diameter measures at 29.5 inches with a depth of 2 inches, which means it provides dimension and texture to your walls. And since it tells you what time it is – it’s functional and stylish at the same time!

As we mentioned, this modern wall clock is currently on sale. For a limited time, you can save an extra 30% off of the Lotus Wall Clock. WIth such a great deal, don’t hold back – because these clocks won’t last!

Where will you hang your Lotus Wall Clock?

Modern Room of the Week: Colorful Kitchen

For this week’s room of the week, we chose a modern kitchen that has a lot of color and several unique features. The color scheme of this kitchen is blues, greens, white and silver. The way that the colors have been distributed are consistent and creative – have you ever seen lime green countertops before? In a modern kitchen? I can’t say that I have!

Although the countertops are green throughout the kitchen, a raised bar counter is made of stainless steel, which adds a nice sleek touch. Did you notice the green floors that match the counters?

Another interesting feature of this kitchen is the exposed shelving. It is definitely not something you usually see in a kitchen – because typically there are cabinets there! These display units bring a surprise factor to the kitchen and they are a great way to add color and show off fun accessories.
What are your thoughts on this modern kitchen?

What do you think of the colors? Is there anything you would change?

All about Bedrooms

All about bedrooms...

Today I am sharing with all of you bedroom ideas and ways of making them seem more comfortable cozy, and a room we can all fell good about.. I mean its our bedroom and feeling good is whats its all about... In many ways.. LOL..

Bunk Beds vs Loft Beds – Both great for small spaces

With so many styles of bed on the market today, it can sometimes seem a daunting task to choose just one. When choosing a bed you should address what it is that you actually need from the piece of furniture in question.

For example, are you looking for a luxury bed to create a centrepiece in a large room? Do you wish to invest in a bed that utilizes space efficiently? Alternatively do you wish to make a fashion statement with the likes of a futon? Or is your bed there simply to provide you with a comfortable, supportive night’s sleep? Whichever option you choose, you can guarantee that there is a style to suit your every need.

The classic two-person bunk bed is probably the best space saving option as it encapsulates two people in one area. The bunk bed utilises height rather than width, which means you have the rest of the room to play with. There are now several variations of the bunk bed available; these include the likes of futon styles and also loft versions.

The loft versions are a great option for a smaller room, as you are able to utilise the space underneath the bed to your advantage. This space could be used for the likes of a seating area, a cupboard or storage. Many children’s rooms contain the above option and parents tend to place a desk beneath the bed. This space is a great option for a child, as he or she will feel like she has her own grown-up space to do her homework in!

Bunk beds are available in a huge range of different styles and materials. Many of the modern versions are available in metal, whilst the more traditional styles come in the form of pine or other painted or varnished wood.

As long as you team the style of the bed to the rest of the room, everything will generally tie in stylishly together.

10 Romantic Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Whether you are sleeping in, working or just chilling out, the bedroom might be the part of the house in which you spend the most time. This is also the most personal room of your home and the way you have furnished and decorated it mirrors your personality and should inspire a welcome and warm feel.

A romantic decor is often a popular choice to bring a warmer atmosphere to a room as it reflects this sense of peace and tranquillity. It is also very easy to bring some romance to a room by simply placing small additions throughout the room. Below are 10 creative tips to give you inspiration and turn your bedroom into a gorgeous romantic getaway that will bring peace and calm when you walk through the door.

1. Colour theme: Pale and pastel colours to get a successful romantic look. You can choose from a large palette of soft shades, from dusky pink and lilac through to lemon and periwinkle blue. You can also combine two colours that go well together, like cream and soft green, but most romantic decors tend to be produced with one colour associated with small sophisticated additions to keep an uncluttered feel.

2. Bed: The choice of the bed is important as it will generally make the main statement in your bedroom. Romantic style bedrooms are generally furnished with large sized dramatic beds that give a presence to the room, such as four poster beds and large ornate wrought iron bed frames.

3. Headboard: Considering the space most of us have to work with, a four poster bed is sometimes not the best option since this is an imposing piece of furniture. Complementing your bed with a headboard is then a great alternative, it will bring texture if you choose an upholstered or tufted model, plus they come in a large choice of rounded shapes. For example a Cavendish shaped headboard with rounded corners will add the right touch of romance to your bed.

4. Linens: White, smooth and soft fabrics such as silk and satin not only have an incredible feel to the touch but will add the right amount of luxury your bedroom needs to look cosy and romantic. You should choose soft and luxurious fabric for your bed linen and add some plush and fluffy pillows on top to create the best effect.

5. Nature: Floral additions are an important aspect of romantic decoration. They can be designed on a delicate fabric, featured in your wallpaper pattern, framed in a piece of artwork or simply arranged in a delicate bouquet. Animals such as birds and butterflies are also extensively used to create a romantic mood.

6. Feminine objects: Place feminine accessories throughout the room, such as perfume bottles, shiny jewellery and romantic articles like scented candles and feathers. These small additions will radiate a very relaxing atmosphere.

7. Mirrors: Mirrored objects are quite common in romantic decorating themes as they bring light. Hanging a framed mirror on the wall behind your bed or attaching small panels of mirrors on your walls will definitely add a touch of romance to your décor and liven up the natural lights creating interesting effects to work with.
8. Voiles: Draping voiles and lace panels do a great job at finishing a romantic style. You can wrap your four poster bed with light voiles or arrange a voile panel up at the head of your normal bed. Complementing your windows with long and light curtains that let the sunshine through is also a great idea to make the room cosier.

9. Light is the element you need to consider as there is no better way to set up a special atmosphere and add a touch of romance to your bedroom. Banish harsh lightings and instead go for light bulbs that soften the light. For a greater effect, you can go for a decorative lamp that filters the light to other colours such as soft red.

10. Accessories: The romantic style is often associated with accessories such as candles, fresh flowers vases, black and white picture frames, art deco pieces of furniture, decorative plates.
There are a lot of great ideas out there to create a romantic mood in a bedroom; accessories usually do a large part of the job so you can let your imagination wild. A word of caution though: keep it sophisticated but small in order to not clutter the space with too many additions.

Transforming Your Bedroom Space

As mentioned in a previous blog post, buying a bed is a large and significant purchase. The core tips discussed for choosing a bed will be remain the same and will do so for the foreseeable future.
However, unless you are lucky enough to live in a home with a spacious bedroom, the bed itself will take up a significant portion of the room. During the day this space is commonly unused. Wouldn’t it be great to transform bedrooms so they are truly multi-functional?

After attending a recent exhibition in the UK, we were presented with an innovative space saving bed which allows a bed to glide into the ceiling at the touch of a button. This opens up a number of functional uses for the room. At night it can remain a place to sleep but during the day it could be:

• A play area for your children
• A home gym
• An office
• A home cinema!

It’s certainly a cost effective solution compared to building extensions to your home or even moving home if you think your family has ‘outgrown’ it.

What do you think? Would you consider something like the Sleep Space system? Do you prefer traditional space saving ideas?

Hope all of you enjoyed the posts..

Modern homes and a few other things...

Modern homes and a few other things...

Today I am sharing with all of yu a couple really amazing modern homes, well one of them is a center but about the same size as a giant house and its quite amazing.. What amazes me the most of this minimal modern contemporary style is its just simplistic approach to al things including interior decor, its so clean and just has the bare minimum.. In my opinion its the most versatile best design style of all time..

The reason I think this way is its ability to swallow up old past styles and even new emerging ones and make it part of itself. For instance many modern contemporary interior designs have traditional pieces throughout as accent furniture.. and that my friends is the key accent pieces with this style.. you can grab from any design style, past, present, or future, and add it to a corner, as armory piece, or simply make a room with it and still call it a modern contemporary home...

Amazing...

Simply an amazing center and great architecture and design. It also fits very perfectly with the surrounding landscape and scenery. They got it right here...

Modern & Remote: Bridge Studio

by Sanders Architecture

Are you the kind of person that gets a bit distracted? That can’t get any work done when there’s loud noises or people milling about? You might need to work in the Bridge Studio, by Sanders Architecture, located in the painfully beautiful but incredibly remote Deep Bay, the smallest community on Fogo Island, Canada.

“As with all the Fogo Island Arts Corporation’s Art Studios, Bridge Studio is paired with a traditional Newfoundland Saltbox house, this one is located in Deep Bay, the smallest community on Fogo Island with a population of one hundred and fifty people. The Bridge Studio’s Saltbox House is a freshly painted, in sharp contrast to its dilapidated condition, only a few months previous. A local carpenter who is putting the finishing touches on the house, points out the project’s double-hung, wood frame windows that were crafted at the local woodshop, initiated and operated by the Shorefast Foundation.”

The views, obviously. The simple treatment of the interior so that the level of distraction is minimalized. Just what you need: a desktop, a fireplace for warmth, maybe a little storage. It still seems very charming and soul-touching in the inside though, with just a hint of traditionalism in the wood walls and a few elements.

With a place like this to go to work, who would want to miss it. I would be there everyday and just feel at home and peaceful...

Soup Studio Design’s

quirky Daiana Lamp

Love this quirky take on a floor lamp! Not only is it upside down, but the part that lights up is surprising! And it’s fun that the lampshade part then becomes a table. Not sure how functional it is with the current proportions, but it’s a fun little thing to add to an interior space to shake things up a bit.

Lighting always seems to amaze me....

Mike Thompson’s

crazy-cool & amazing lighting ideas

Artist? Designer? Genius? Mike Thompson has ideas about lighting. Really cool, future-forward, crazy ideas about lighting. He’s created a light called Blood Lamp that requires users to use their own blood to operate the light, in order to drive home the question of whether or not you really need to be using up that energy for lights. Then there’s Trap Light and Trace Light, which utilizes photoluminescent…oh, heck, let him explain:
“The Trace series of outdoor lamps sees designers Gionata Gatto and Mike Thompson revisit the same theme as last year’s Trap Light, this time with a completely new material investigation and design. Using photoluminescent pigments in combination with polyurethane rubbers, hand-made photoluminescent skins are developed to convert waste energy back into visible light. As darkness descends, a ghostly trace of light is revealed as the high concentration of photoluminescent pigments radiate recycled light energy as an intense, ambient glow. Trace S and Trace M, are charged either by the provided 5 watt LED light bulb or natural solar energy. Harnessing the natural power of the sun’s rays, and indeed any light in close proximity, Trace L shuns the use of electricity altogether, creating an intense ambient glow from recycled sunlight.”

All about Kitchens

All about Kitchens..

I have been on vacation for about two weeks and now I am back. Today I am writing and sharing with all ogf you secrets on how to create the perfect Kitchen. A very important room and in the minimal style of design, very complicated since iyt has to be minimal, modern, and very practical, and as we know the minimal style of design is sometimes not very practical..

Enjoy the pics and post..

Concealed Appliance are Always “In”

The kitchen has seen some major changes in style over the past few years. Appliances are getting bigger, stainless steel has become a centerpiece of fashion, and unique materials like granite are making waves. However, concealed appliances don’t get nearly as much attention as they should.
Concealed appliances can make a kitchen feel like any other room of the house. By hiding your refrigerator, oven and other appliances, you can transform a “kitchen” into an all-purpose room that is open and inviting.

Appliances signal a room that’s off-limits to guests. It’s a room that is only used for cooking, and should be kept that way. But you won’t have that walled-off feeling if you conceal your appliances in cabinets and the walls.

It’s quite easy to conceal your appliances, especially if you’re in the process of renovating. They are all already up against a wall, so it’s only a matter of either building a cabinet around them or moving them into a nook or corner. Just be sure that you make them accessible, but invisible.
Concealed appliances can also save space. By encasing your dishwasher in a kitchen counter, for instance, you can use it as a chopping board or surface space when it’s not in use (and even when it is!).

Concealed appliances can make your kitchen appear more inviting, and they even go so far as to equip it as a dining room, if you have a large enough space. You can bring in a table and chairs, and eat right in the kitchen without feeling like it’s the kitchen at all.

Breathtaking Backsplashes

The backsplash is an often overlooked area of the the kitchen. It is certainly a functional item, protecting the back wall from splashes. However, it adds a splash of style as well as it usually stands out from the rest of your kitchen walls. If you’re looking to get creative with your kitchen, take a good hard look at your backsplash and see if you can’t spice it up.

One option that is becoming increasingly popular is continuing the counter material up the wall to create the backsplash. This maintains a cohesive pattern, design, and texture, and it can make a statement, especially if you counter material is unique like granite or funky tiling.

And backsplashes don’t have to be one solid material the whole way around your kitchen. You can play with changing the material based on the location, such as darkening the color behind the stove and sink, or by running the countertop up from the counter but choosing a completely different style for other areas of the kitchen.

There are a variety of materials you can choose from when creating your perfect backsplash, and they each have their own style personality. For instance, tile can be plain or pack a powerful punch if you choose an interesting pattern or color combination. You can go laminate, black glass, or ceramic. And then there are the more daring options, like bamboo or other woods, and even metal backsplashes.
This is one style detail that you don’t want to overlook when re-decorating your kitchen!

Smooth, artful seating. It’s clear that the Hightower Gallery Stools are inspired by high-end art gallery seating. They are minimalist in spirit, with their back-less, scooped form. You can sit on one of these stools for hours as you chat, eat or even watch a movie in your own home, and you’ll have the feeling that you’re witnessing a great masterpiece. As an accent stool or as the central seating in your home, the Hightower Gallery Stool will always be in the spotlight. Elegant crystals, fractal light and the epitome of sophistication are the three design concepts that fuse together in this Cellula Chandelier. This chandelier is at home above a posh dining table, a bar, or in a commercial setting. It features a row of Swarovski crystals that hang delicately amid the subtle torpedo bulbs. The light from these bulbs is reflected off of the precision-cut crystals and sent out in a warm glow over the surrounding area, imbuing it with a romantic and understated mood. This chandelier is customizable, allowing you to adjust the placement of each individual crystal pendant by slotting them into the grooves on the aluminum hanging bar that holds this conceptual chandelier together. You can purchase the Cellula Chandelier for $2,100.00 ($2,600.00 regular price) from DWR.com.

Could you use a new range hood?

In most homes, a range hood is there to keep grease from accumulating on walls, paint from peeling and odors from taking over in a kitchen. However, a stylish range hood can completely transform the look of your kitchen and even become a focal point!

Style

The first thing that you need to decide is if you prefer a range that fits under a cabinet or one that is wall mounted. You also need to determine if your range will exhaust pollutants outside or if you’re going to buy a recirculating one.

Features

Some range hoods have dishwasher-safe filters which is rather convenient. You may also want to consider if you want one that is completely smooth or if you won’t mind getting a toothbrush out to scrub any grooves.

Would a remote control be handy or do you want one that turn on by itself when the heat sensors tell it to? You should also evaluate the lighting. A well lit cooking area allows you to really get a good look at the food you’re preparing.

Noise Level

If you find one on sale but the noise level is a little obnoxious, keep shopping. A great deal isn’t so spectacular when the volume on the television in the next room has to be turned up or if your guests have to talk over the noise. A range should never become a distraction!

There you have it.. some of the things to make your kitchen shine..

Modern contemporary odds and ends..

Modern contemporary odds and ends..

Today I am sharing with all of you secrets and tips of modern contemporary odds and ends, or pieces that not to many people have but are definitely the talk of those who do.. They are rarely seen but when they are hardly ever forgotten..

Enjoy the pics and post...

A Taste of the Orient...

The plainly named Shop of the Orient (SOTO for short) carries an intriguing line of decor with an unmistakable eastern influence. Above: The Aladdin and Panarch beds both feature complementary use of materials. The Panarch is a solid teak frame with padded water hyacinth panels on the headboard, while the Aladdin has a tightly packed water hyacinth frame with teak edging. Both beds have sleek bodies with restrained curves. Though an Asian design philosophy is evident, there is nothing “traditional” about these beds: they are contemporary through and through.
Also available are boxed candle and tea-light sets. The first bamboo vessel can also hold potpourri infused water or flowers, while the second set features an inverted bamboo plank that serves as an elegant candle holder.

Lastly, SOTO sells privacy screens with a wholly natural look. The first screen is a mat of bamboo sticks strung vertically inside a square teak frame. Slightly more contemporary is the Sarmart screen which is composed of alternating bamboo bundles and packed water hyacinth blocks. These are by far the most traditional of their products, but like all of SOTO’s products, they maintain a contemporary/minimalist appeal.

A Unique Lamp..

Tired of the same old lighting? While not new, Martinelli Luce’s serpentine lamps from the 1960s are sure to add a little zest to your decor. There’s a heavy dose of modern retro design in each of these pieces; the Cobra Table Lamp ($890) is classic Martinelli, with bubblicious curves and matte white resin. I love the swiveling arm – it allows you to switch from a spherical to a sinuisodal shape at a whim. The S-form in particular resembles an inquisitive, probing snake – it’s almost as if the lamp itself is alive.

If the Cobra seems animalistic, the Serpente Table Lamp ($980) and Serpente Floor Lamp ($1,499) are positively alien. The semi-translucent opal methacrylate diffusers that form the shade glow like something out of a 50′s B-movie, while the sinous neck briefly coils along the periphery of the circular base. These lamps don’t just light up your work surface–they seem to be intimately involved in your work.

For the more light-hearted, the Pipistrello Lamp ($1500) takes on a playful, plant-like shape with a four-lobed diffuser and cute, cone-like bases. The stainless steel segmented necks are functional, allowing the lamps to be telescoped from 26″ to 34″. Three of these lamps are actually housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York – so owning them would be like having part of the Permanent Collection in your own home. Way cool!

More then just Lamps...

In the world of contemporary design, you could say that lighting designers have a bit of an advantage over their counterparts. Self illuminating decor, by virtue of its intrinsic energy output, tends to grab attention; in other words, pretty lights elicit “oohs” like nothing else. Above: Mathmos Design’s Aduki lamps are definitely in the “ooh” category, with an organic bean-like form factor and a soft-touch plastic shell that produces a gentle, diffuse glow. Both Aduki and its big brother Aduki Ni will smoothly transition through a gamut of colors. Packaged in a chrome-plated die-cast zinc base, these rechargeable lamps are designed for both outdoor and indoor use and are portable.

Mark McKenna’s Designer Emulation Kits (DEKs) are humorous homages to some of the most famous modern lighting designers. Similar to a plastic model kit, each DEK comes with a circuit board and snap-off pieces with which you can (attempt to) build replicas of renowned lamps by the likes of Ingo Maurer, Achille Castiglioni and Richard Sapper. A single 9V battery is used to power a bright LED light; at only $29, these are much affordable than their real-life equivalents.

Similar to the Aduki lamps above, Candeloo are portable, rechargeable lamps. Targeted towards children, the lamps feature two bunny ears and covered electrical contacts to make them appealing and safe for little hands–though, frankly I wouldn’t mind getting pair of these into my own very adult hands.

Buro fur form’s Molecular Lights (12, 3) and Alexandre Berthiaume’sKozom (bottom) simulate the arrangement of atoms into molecules; it’s been a long time since I took Organic Chemistry but I do believe some of these lamps faintly resemble sigma and pi bonds. A polyethylene shade is supported by an aluminum base, and are sold in table or pendant variants. Kozom takes the molecule theme to another level with a chaotic mass of inflated vinyl balls surrounding a light source, and is fairly spectacular in a reddish-orange glow.

Tord Boontje is taking over the world, and the Garland Light is just another example of his amazing work (we recently featured his Oval Table here). His patterns literally come to life in a 3-dimensional structure made from laser-cut metal. Available in brass, silver, chrome or rust finishes, this is a beautiful and exotic piece and not one to be missed at only $59.

There you have it.. Rare items that make a place cool
