Waiheke Island in San Francisco

Hello, fellow patriot! We may not have possession of the America's Cup, but we're still representing over in San Francisco, where the 2013 Cup is being hosted. A few of our best foodie types have created temporary restaurants down at Embarcadero (the Cup village).

They're saying that the best of them all is Waiheke Island Yacht Club, the pop-up restaurant and bar created by Auckland restauranteur Tony Stewart. The entire WIYC experience intends to give San Fran a taste of NZ's chilled-yet-classy style and sensibilities.

I thought you might like a peeperoni at it...

New Zealand ingredients are the stars of the menu - oysters, snapper, lamb, even feijoas (which non-NZ people have never heard of, huh?) - with bevvies including MOA craft beer and Antipodes water. I love Antipodes sparkling.

They've gone for a bach-like interior, with furniture (love those leather armchairs!) designed and supplied by New Zealand's Douglas and Bec, and the kitchen and wait staff are all New Zealanders. So choice aye. Really choice.

Ooh, and to the 30-something Fancy readers who live in San Francisco (thanks Google Analytics geographic reporting), can you go, and then tell us what it was like?
