There are loads of finalists in the Student Product Design category of this year's NZ Design Awards (Best Awards), but this one is my hands-down fave. Self Taut, by Lucas Wotawa, is a collection of stools each with a mechanism a little like an embroidery hoop, that allows you to change out the fabric as you wish (the mechanism pulls the fabric taut). The pale blonde maple is the perfect blank canvas and I love the idea that this piece of furniture can change styles with the owner's aesthetic taste. Let me know when they go on sale, Lucas.
