Godfrey-Hunt House, c. 1875
Look what I found - the only Neel Reid house in Madison, Georgia. I didn't get a good photo of the house when I was there in early November, but snapped a couple of pictures with my phone when I was there last week.
According to Madison - A Classic Southern Town author William Mitchell, the house was built in 1875 by Dr James Ervin Godfrey, expanded by Mrs Godfrey in 1895 (she added two rooms one upstairs and one down and also added the wrap around porch). The Godfreys' son, Captain J.E. Godfrey and his wife hired Neel Reid in to remodel the house in the early 1920's.
Amazingly this house has been owned by the same family since its construction. The current owner is the great-great grandson of Dr. James Godfrey and his wife Mary. The house was renovated in 2003 - the owners hired preservation architect W. Lane Greene for the project.
