5 Different Color Combinations to Use When Decorating Your Home

A common problem that homeowners face when decorating their home is choosing what colors to use for the decor of a room. If you have ever visited a paint store then you have probably seen the hundreds of different colors and shades that a person could pick when designing a color scheme. You may even have felt completely overwhelmed.

Not everyone has an eye for color or can pick the colors that look good together in a room. If you are looking for ideas for color combinations to use in the decor of your house, here are five to consider.

1. Brown, Blue and Cream

This color scheme looks good in any room of the home. When using brown, blue and cream to decorate a room, make sure that you keep a balance of colors especially when applying the dark brown.

If you have a dark brown couch, lighten it up with cream or light blue pillows. On the other hand, if you have a cream couch, add some interest with brown and blue pillows. Look for patterns that have all three colors to add even more visual interest.

2. Shades of Brown and Cream

If you want a peaceful retreat in your home, whether in your bedroom or bathroom look for shades of brown and cream. Look for a wide variety of shades from every point on the spectrum from dark chocolate brown to an off white or light cream color. This color combination closely resembles a monochromatic theme but you can easily add more interest by pairing a lighter shade with a darker shade so that the room appears livelier.

3. Blue and Orange

Blue and orange are a complimentary color scheme, which means the colors are across from each other on the color wheel. The key to a blue and orange color combination is to keep the colors muted rather than using bright oranges and blues. These colors can easily be worked into a contemporary styled room by adding white or even brown to the mix.

4. Black and White

Black and white is a classic color combination that can be used for any room in your home. The great thing about black and white is that it can be modern as well as traditional depending on the pieces that you use. If you want to add in some more style to a black and white room try adding an accent color such as red or green. There is no shortage of black and white home accessories so this color combination should be one of the easiest to work with.

5. Pink and Green

Another complimentary color scheme, pink and green go well in such rooms as bedrooms, living rooms, and sun rooms. When decorating with pink and green you definitely want to add a neutral color like white or cream or you may end up with too much color in the room. Keep the colors in the same shades. For example, you would not pair neon pink with mint green.

If you lack ideas for color combinations for your home, these five are a great place to start. They should give you some inspiration when decorating your house. By using theses suggestions for a base and then adding your own style to them, you can make your home look unique.
