Sarah Maxey goes big

Sarjeant Gallery, Whanganui

Sarah Maxey's been busy!

I’ve just completed a huge typographic installation in the central dome of the Sarjeant Gallery, in Whanganui. It’s the largest-scale I've ever worked to. I painted an eight-letter word, ‘comeback’ straight onto the wall, with the letters reaching nearly 1.2 metres in height. My arm hurts a bit. It will be on show until the end of March 2013.

NZ type designer Tim Donaldson

On my font travels recently (yes, I have font travels), I came across Pyes Pa. The first thing I noticed was that it seemed to be same one used by Good magazine in their recent re-design. I'd recognise that g anywhere. I also wondered at the name... could the designer be from the Bay? Yip!
New Zealand designer Tim Donaldson is not only practically my neighbour, he's also the man behind this beautiful font family, inspired by Bodoni. You can buy it over at MyFonts.
