Soho Beach House Resort in Miami Beach is an eclectic mix of Art Deco and beach house chic.

10 Ways To: To transform your outdoor living space

With Summer just around the corner it's a great time to start designing your outdoor living space. Whether you are looking to totally transform a blank slate or update a boring deck, here are 10 tips to success.

1. Groundwork.

Make sure you have a great base to start with. Creating a platform to showcase your space can be done with pavers, wood deck or even by staining an existing concrete pad. This outdoor dining space has a gorgeous stone design.

2. Space planning.
Decide what your space will be used for. A little space planning can go a long way. You can tell this space was planned out perfectly for , relaxing, lounging, dining and cooking.

 3. Landscaping.
Creating green surroundings that compliment your outdoor living area can give seclusion and privacy or add a lush touch for a tropical feel.

 4. Fabric.
Using fabric as drapes or sun block can soften a space and make it feel more like the indoors. This design trick creates an inviting and relaxing space.

5. Lighting.
A few great lanterns or chandeliers can transform your outdoor space into a coastal retreat.

 6. Layers.
Creating layers with area rugs, prints, throw pillows and levels of furniture will give your outdoor space dimension. Your coastal outdoor living area will have a collected and rich feel.

An easy way to give your outdoor living space a bigger feel is to paint the ceiling light blue to mimic the sky. Your space will feel open and airy with a simple can of paint.

Whether you are getting together for drinks and conversation or a family dinner, having something to gather around is necessary. This item can be a great dining table, coffee table or in this case a fire pit.

10. Private escape.
Creating an area you can escape to and get lost in a book is a favorite of most. A simple way to create your own private spot is by placing a day bed outdoors and fill it with pillows. This day bed was made with a simple DIY design and covered with outdoor fabric.
